I am no aware that Google or Yahoo has customized their MySQL. Refs?
It is wellknown that Facebook has customized their MySQL. But:
1) It is mostly "nice to have extras" not something necessary
(the change most frequently mentioned is that they piggy back
cache flush instructions with the MySQL replication)
2) They have actually released their changes as open source, so
if somebody want them they can get them
