Please be careful about what you understand to be British English.
A lot of the so called "British Music Scene" is based on a variation of
Cockney and that makes my ears bleed too. It's not proper Cockney but
some bastardization thereof.
If your British friends are up to snuff they will understand my
frustration ;.)
