Someone please tell me that this has already been fixed,
and that if I weren't a worthless-peon hobbyist, I would
probably already have a patch for it:
REX $ tcpip show version
HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Industry Standard 64 Version V5.7 -
ECO 1
on an HP rx2600 (1.50GHz/6.0MB) running OpenVMS V8.4
REX $ create /directory sys$sysdevice:[dir_bug]
REX $ copy nl: sys$sysdevice:[dir_bug]dir_bug.dir;1
REX $ dire sys$sysdevice:[dir_bug...]
Directory SYS$SYSDEVICE:[dir_bug]
%DIRECT-E-OPENIN, error opening SYS$SYSDEVICE:[dir_bug.dir_bug]*.*;*
as input
-RMS-E-ACC, ACP file access failed
-SYSTEM-F-FILNOTACC, file not accessed on channel
dir_bug.dir;1
Total of 1 file.
On an older Alpha system:
ALP $ tcpip show version
HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V5.6 - ECO 5
on a COMPAQ Professional Workstation XP1000 running OpenVMS V8.3
ALP $ create /directory sys$sysdevice:[dir_bug]
ALP $ copy nl: sys$sysdevice:[dir_bug]dir_bug.dir;1
ALP $ dire sys$sysdevice:[dir_bug...]
Directory SYS$SYSDEVICE:[dir_bug]
dir_bug.dir;1
Total of 1 file.
Both system disks are ODS5, obviously.
I was just trying to look for a particular file anywhere
on a disk, and discovered that an old Cdrecord source tree
includes/included a (plain) file named RULES.DIR:
REX $ dg d0:[000000...]fred.dat
%DIRECT-E-OPENIN, error opening REX$DKA0:
[utility.SOURCE.CDRECORD.CDRECORD-1_8_1
.RULES.RULES]fred.dat;* as input
-RMS-E-ACC, ACP file access failed
-SYSTEM-F-FILNOTACC, file not accessed on channel
Which terminates the command.
