You can create a one-line LOGIN.COM with :

$ create login.com
$ SET TERM/VT100/WIDTH=80/INSERT
<ctrl-Z>
$

The "$" on the second line (with the SET TERM command) is entered
by you, the line is empty and CREATE is waiting for input.
ctrl-Z exits CREATE and closes the LOGIN.COM file.
