Some 3D printers can build extremely complex shapes. They work a bit
like a laser printer in that they "burn" viscous material to caused
lasered portions to solidify, allowing the unlasered portions to be
drained after the printing is complete.
This is extremely useful for creating prototypes, testing cad designs
for parts etc. (and using those as templates to create the molds for
actual production).
