I'm astounded that all this came out of my describing the relative capability of 
two different weapons, neither of which is a handgun.

As for how guns are so bad, how much better would it have been if the guy had 
thrown a molotove (can't spell it) cocktail into the crowded theater?

I think that question points out at least 2 things.

1) In this modern world, there are many ways to harm people, and it's the people 
doing the harm, not the implements, including guns.

2) Should we then outlaw glass wine bottles ???  Rags ???  Gasoline ???

Gasp!  Now I must be a terrorist, I just described how to construct a weapon of 
mass destruction ....
