Where is the tie between gun control and criminal activity. Even defining
criminal activity can be an issue with oppressive governments defining criminal
activity that would not be so with a non-oppressive government.

Leaving guns totally out of the question for a moment, I'm going to suggest that
it is people who are or are not law abiding. For many, it's simple moral values
taught when they are young that makes the difference. Note, I'm not talking
about religion and such. I'm talking about "Now Johnny, it's not nice to
scratch the paint on the neighbor's car. You wouldn't like it if they broke
your toys. Treat others as you would want to be treated."

Imagine a rather law abiding society. Then add guns into the equation. Explain
the logic that all of a sudden the guns would turn a peaceful law abiding
society into a raging wave of criminal activity?
