You'll be amazed when you learn how many people can't distinguish tv 
'reality' from real life. Just ask actors who play a 'bad' role in a 
film or tv series.

I once saw a US tv program where they asked little children to point out 
the bad guy from a series of pictures. They all choose the black guy, 
even the black children!

So from a very early age on these children 'learn' that black men are 
dangerous criminals, and the black children 'learn' that they are no 
good and destined to be criminals.

If your only source of information is tv (how many people read a real 
newspaper these days?), and tv programs are made to please you and to 
nurture your prejudices, then yes, people base their opinions on what 
they see on tv.
