In my LOGIN.COM

$ define  eve$init sys$login:eveini.eve

The relevant lines of eveini.eve

DEFINE KEY=CONTROL-D DO
DEFINE KEY=CONTROL-F FIND

With this you can issue TPU commands (CTRL-D) and search (CTRL-F, double 
CTRL-F to find again), without needing any function keys.
