Sad, but I can believe it, and it proves the point.
FWIW when I was in Holland in 1981/2 I was often bought beers by total
strangers who on learning that I was English wanted to thank me for
rescuing them or a relative from a German PoW camp. "But I wasn't born
then" was met with "Well your father rescued us/them then".
It made me realise that those of us whose countries weren't occupied
don't fully understand what occupied countries went through.
