VIP was independent of DII COE and fork() always worked in the Posix
environment. VIP was improved to fully comply with the standards, a
requirement for DII COE. The main effort was in the shell and utilities
area. But nothing from VIP "ended up" in DII COE, except that you
couldn't get/order a separate VIP kit. But if you had one, you very
likely could install and use it on any 7.2 system. It should even work
on a 7.3 system.

I don't have access to listings or even sources, but I assume that there
was some code in the $creprc sources.
