Digital had its own customer base to service and when it was the second
largest IT provider after IBM, its customer base needed a lot of servce
and support. Consultancy was icing on the cake and I don't think it was
that big of a business for Digital.
EDS isn't so much about support of systems, it is more about
consultantcy to manage/drive large projects. And when industry don't
have many large projects due to recession, they don't hire firms like
EDS to do them.

LaCarly's purchase of Compaq, HP doesn't have a good track record of
leveraging the assets that it buys and properly integrating them.

IBM is succesful with services business, so the IBM wannabes like HP
want to emulate IBM. But they don't quite get to a point where they are
succesful
