On VMS I use DEC Basic. (Now you understand why other OS cannot help me.)
When required, I can use other languages. My current database product
is implemented almost exclusively in Macro-32. Even have some (hock,
spit) C routines.
As a disclaimer, would DEC Basic be able to do some of the device
control and other stuff some people do? I don't know, but I seriously
doubt it.
For commercial business systems, I have yet to run into anything that I
cannot do with DEC Basic, and usually it is the best and easiest solution.
