[Info-vax] DR's fate

Please assume the Deathrow server will be offline, at least until it's
not offline. If not after. Deathrow might go offline later, and with
little or no notice.

While various parts of the hardware configuration do have issues and
there is definitely a flaky (or failed) disk involved in the
configuration, the limits here involve competing priorities and
scheduling conflicts. Of having a life and a wife and child and a job
(and the issues of the occasional passing hurricane), at its simplest.
Not the (failed) hardware. The spare parts inventory and the necessary
knowledge of OpenVMS and of the server hardware are not what's
centrally keeping the configuration offline.

The current Deathrow status has been posted to the login messages and
are visible via ssh or telnet logins (to gein.vistech.net), and the IRC
channel (#vms, password vms, irc.2600.net) are open for additional
questions and discussions. I'll not include that status text here.
If you have questions that aren't addressed, please post them via IRC
and somebody will either answer them and/or update the status messages.

I've suggested this to MG in the past, and I'll suggest it again here:
Please consider running your own public-access cluster on your own
server hardware. You already have the Itanium hardware, and the
hobbyist licenses and components such as the user-registration system
are available; everything you need to have the uptime and the support
that you want is available. As an added benefit to your interest in
OpenVMS, you'll learn substantially more about OpenVMS, about security
and networking, and about the hardware you're using.

Thanks for the offers of hardware, too.
