I didn't know that you are forced to actually use the updated kernel.
What's keeping you from sticking to the one you're running already?
You know, changelogs exist. If the changes don't affect you, don't
upgrade. Simple as that.
That said, depending on the distribution, kernel updates might be not
that frequent. And should you have a distribution with long term
support (like RHEL or certain versions of Ubuntu), the older they get,
the less frequent those kernel updates are going to get.
So yeah, I still think you don't exactly know what you're talking about.
