DEC C can be installed on VMS 5.5-2 and later.

The AACRTL060 kit that comes with earlier versions of the compiler can 
be distributed with binaries built by the DEC C compiler to allow them 
to be deployed on VMS 5.5-2 systems.

The AACRTL060 kit is a back port of the DEC C RTL from VMS 6.0 to VMS 
5.5-2 and has many fixes to the behavior of routines.

On VMS 5.5-2 and later it is strongly recommended that DEC C be used 
instead of VAX C.

The last known port to me of GCC VAX can use the AACRTL060 kit on VMS 
5.5-2 to work better than using the VAXCRTL.

MMK can be used with MMS description files and is free for download in 
Hunter Goatley's  freeware download area at Process.com.
