Maybe I should have written
"consumer electronics and relatively low-tech like DRAM"
as opposed to "high-tech" such as workstation/server CPUS.
For these, intel/Motorola/TI etc would have been a better place
to go for DEC back then.

One might speculate if those ARMs are beginning to kill x86 from the
bottom up just like x86 did with large parts of the classical
RISC ecosystem. Tit for tat, so to say.
