I really want to take a look at AXIS/C about a year ago but was much
too busy to attempt my own port so I went with gSOAP. I was really
surprised at the quality of the gSOAP port done by two HP employees
(Brett Cameron and John Apps). They proved to me that OpenVMS
engineers can still the young whippersnappers a thing or two.
So if I were you, I'd first try to get gSOAP moved to the Open Source
area at HP's OpenVMS site. (of course, someone at HP would then be
tasked with officially supporting it)
But to answer your original question, anything you can port to OpenVMS
to keep this OS useful would be appreciated by all. In my own case, it
is HP's version of the Apache web server that has kept VMS alive (and
a paid-up annual VMS support contract with HP). We would have been
forced to another platform if not for Apache.
