   Why use DEC compilers with Linux?  Linux was ported to Alpha and used
   the gnu compilers.

   OK, I know the DEC compilers often generate better code, but the
   world doesn't seem to care.  Nobody even seems to turn on compiler
   optimization in UNIX land.
