If you NEED a 3100/98 system you might well have to pay that much!
If you are able and willing to spend some time you might do a little 
better or a lot better!

You might also do WORSE!  You have to remember that these machines are
no longer manufactured.  A very small number are bought and sold each 
year.  The people who MUST have one or two or three will be buying, not 
selling.  A few people have machines gathering dust and may be persuaded
to sell them.
