[Info-vax] OpenVMS collecting SCSI/SAS disk serial number data from a SCSI inquiry?

Is there a way to collect a SCSI/SAS disk serial number remotely in VMS 
from DCL?

I've tested the  OpenVMS ALpha V8.4 command line utilities below and 
they do not report the device serial number from the Vital Product data 
frame.

-SCSI_INFO
-cddvd$tools.cld ( tested on CDDROM and Hard disk.  )
  	%CDDVD-S-NOSERNUM, No device serial number data is available
-SAS$UTIL
-MSA$UTIL

A friend has showed me an output from  his OpenVMS System management 
Home page that can show the serial number for a direct attached SCSI 
disk ( not connected to smart array) , I believe it uses
SNMP to collect the data.
