And unexpected upgrades/downgrades because on some test machine an older
version was present.

It did not help that the documentation incorrectly implied that the NCP
MOP database settings for the download image where actually used by
anything at all.

While I am not working with VMS professionally, I am doing reasonably
well in the network optimization space doing QA work for Riverbed.com.

The company is hiring and I get a significant bonus for anyone that I
refer that gets hired in the QA or Engineering group, and they are
looking for people with networking, perl, python, c++, c#, and related
skills. Home office is in San Francisco, California with engineering
sites in at least two other cities, and there are engineering offices in
Champaign, Illinois, Cambridge (Mass and England), and Greenbelt, Md.

One extra perk is that while there currently is no VMS use inside of the
company, it is an Alliance One member, so employees can get access to
patches and other company Alliance One benefits.

I am currently and a bit slowly trying to get Bash 4.2 + current patches
to run on VMS. I have been documenting my progress on the gnv-develop
mailing list, and keeping the CVS repository for GNV up to date with
each significant milestone, just in case anyone else wants to help. I
think I only have one major issue to resolve and a lot of small issues.
I am currently getting the small issues resolved before going back to
fix the major one.

Bill Pedersen and I are also trying to get a vms-ports project on
sourceforge started to assist in doing opensource porting and to provide
another mirror for many of the existing VMS download sites.
As we are both pretty busy, so far we do not have much done.

Regards,
-John
