One final thought,

If it is true that HP-UX has been ported to x86 and VMS has not (or
will not), then it is true that VMS suffers the same fate as "the red-
headed step-child".

1) HP-UX was fathered by HP.
2) VMS was fathered by DEC.
3) Like an unwanted step-child, VMS was adopted by Compaq then later
by HP.
(HP really didn't want VMS; it just came with the acquisition)

The reg article about how HP was "thinking about acquiring SPARC/
Solaris" indicates (to me) that HP saw more value in Solaris then they
did in VMS (although in the end, HP insiders may have given special
treatment to HP-UX)
