According to the Oracle court documents, HP was expected to announce the
end of IA64 in 2012. This would mean that HP should be ready with
"Intanium retention" programmes to help people port to Linux etc.

I think that all the commotion about constantly changing board/CEO, as
well as the Oracle pulling its products from IA64 has accelerated
things, but also called HP's bluff which makes it harder for HP to
announce the end of IA64 this year since it would be seen as a weak
admission that Oracle was correct.

So announcement of the end of BCS as we know it will probably wait until
2013, at which point HP should have its 8086 based Superdomes on the
market as well.
