Windows Server 2008 has a nice little denial of service trick.  When you 
assign a disk drive for backup, WS2008 takes away the drive letter so 
that nobody can get to it.

When you subsequently decide to use that drive for other purposes, you 
tell Windows backup to release it, and hey presto it comes back as A:

Now try rebooting :-)

P.S. Release another drive at the same time and that will come back as B:
