Hmmm. It's looking quite possible that HP ProtectTools Credential
Manager (in particular, the Single Sign On feature) is responsible for
this behaviour. See e.g. later posts in

Time will tell.

Never had this problem with ProtectTools on WinXP (I didn't explicitly
use it, and I didn't have to disable it either).
