What are you saying? That Hoffman was incorrect when he pointed out that 
you do not need to use backup/physical to copy the whole disk?
What contrary evidence are you referring to in that case? Especially as 
I think it was already established that the COPY command did produce an 
image of the floppy...

Apple used their own low level format for disks for a while. You can 
totally forget to read such disks on anything else. (Of course anything 
is possible, assuming that you can access the magnetic flux on the 
floppy...)
