I did the opposite: interfaced an Altair to a ham transmitter and receiver
so that 60 bps Baudot could be received and transmitted, including buffering
so the handicapped amateur who was buying the Altair from our computer
club would be able to start composing his response while receiving an
incoming message on his screen.
Basically, we wrote a Baudot terminal emulator for the Altair.
I did not do the hardware interfacing - just wrote the code - and my
friend, also in the club, did the hardware side of it. We used his
Cromemco (Z2?) to do the development in 8080 assembler, and used
paper tape as I recall to transfer it to the Altair, trying it
out in his ham equipment before packing it all up and shipping it
across the country to Georgia.
