That response is...  somewhere between sad, and troubling.

Back to the question.  I don't use SSSU, so I can't help there.

What I do use: split off HBVS members for this general task; for when I 
need a whole-lot-of-backup, and fast.

The issues and the risks around partially-written in-flight multi-part 
writes are similar; application quiescence, et al.

Mini-merge can help speed the HBVS reconstitution.
