I feel that you are still working backwards. You should be performing backups from an application consistency viewpoint, as numerous people have and continue to advise.
I can understand HP or another vendor not answering your question as framed, as "it depends".

I know and I had a document open in front of me with commands for improving things and I was reading it to him and I couldn't get him to say one way or the other if that was the right way, I even pointed him to the document I was reading from... oh well... things are working just was looking to see if there was something better.
