Yes, I do ride Hope Chapel all the way to the 70 at Lakehurst. Last
summer, I even saw a dirigible take off. (of course it was just a tiny
fly compared to the Hindenburg...
I know that when I am at intersection of W County Line and Hope Chapel,
I am not far from you. However, I am very time limited that day
(dictated by arrival of first ferry from Manhatan into Belford, and last
ferry to Delaware from Cape May).
The pace between Belford and Lakewood may indicate I can comfortably
make the Cape May ferry, and give false impression that I could spend 15
minutes to meet you, however, I have to factor that beween Lakehurst and
May's landing, heat is a serious problem that affects the pace (slower
speed and more frequent and longer stops to re-hydrate).
Last Summer, by the time I left May's Landing, I wasn't going to make
the ferry (arrive 15 minutes after departure). Thankfully,
temperatures moderated a bit (shade from trees as sun moves west), and
then cooler temps as you enter the cape may peninsula) and I was able to
speed up. Between Dennisville and Cape May, I sped up significantly and
made the Ferry with some time to spare.
My route:
Belford-CR50-CR54-Colts Neck-34 across Earle Naval
Station-547-Farmingdale-547-Lakewood-Hope
Chapel-Lakehurst-70-Manchester-Passadena/Savoy Rd/Chatsworth-563-Egg
Harbor City-CR 50-Corbin/Tuckahoe-Dennisville-47-CR 603 Villas/North
Cape May.
CR 603 is a rough surface at the end when legs are tired, so I am
considering an alternate route on the Cold Spring bike path that adds a
couple of km but would be easier on legs.
For the return: I backtrack from Bethany Beach to Lewis, ferry to Cape
May then bike to Egg Harbour City, and take train to Lindenwold, Patco
to Broadway/Water Rand, River Line to Trenton, NE Corridor to Newark
Penn, (buy bike box from amtrak), backtrack on NE Corridor to Newark
airport (*), and then fly home.
Next year, I should be able to skip the Patco step as the Atlantic City
rail line will connect to River Line at Pensauken.
(*) as of june 2012 this is now illegal as train left New York Penn
while still in rush hour, but conductor didn't say anything this year)

Cool. Considering you are well inland it is good to see a city that
would still be so organised. I can see cities on the coast realy needing
to have well organised evacuation plans an communication systems, but
Lakewood seems like a nice quiet community away from harm (except for
its driver :-)

Sarcasm from Mr VAXman ? Nah.... never ... :-)
I don't know what your weather/tree/power condition is right now, but to
give you an example of the size of this storm. There are strong wind
warnings for Montreal NOW. Nothing dramatic. But this is air coming from
the north east down the st-lawrence river that is attacted by the
combined systems's very low pressure. The direction of travel of that
wind and high tides re pushing waters up the st-lwrence river and have
generated flood alerts for communities east of Québec City on the
st-lawrence river as well as Gaspé peninsula.
I've alreayd had a couple of flickers of lights due to wind.
Montreal is some 800km (roughly 500 miles) from the centre of Sandy.
Gives you some idea of the scale of impact. (the other system was a very
long straight front which spanned from carolinas to northern ontario. It
ceased moving north and is now being "spun" into Sandy's rotation.
The "loop" at: http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/Conus/full_loop.php gives
a good view.

I watched some of the Delaware DOT cameras, and the 1 along the coast
just north of the brand spanking new Indian River suspension bridge not
only had waves going over it, but the road was covered with thick sand.
I am not sure police cars can travel on it anymore, they would need a 4*4.
And looking on the web, there are plenty of pictures of serious flooding
along the coast. Not talking about a large puddle on a street, am
talking about ocean waters flooding coastal roads/towns.
For you it would be a very different story with most damage likely
coming from downed trees.
Anyways, good luck and keep on drinking the golden elyxir :-)
