BTW, traceroutes to Mr VAXman's  DNS servers ( 24.187.213.26 ) fail
before reaching Cablevision's network.

Looks like cablevision may be down in New York's carrier hotel where
various networks connect to each other.

Interestingly www.optimum.net (subsidiary of cablevision)  traceroutes
via new york to dallas to a HP hosted server so you don't pass through
their own network to get to their web sites.
