I remember back around 1995 or so when I had a catalogue of ALPHA 
systems.  The ALPHAstation 200/4 100 was selling for about DM 20,000.  
This was much more than I could afford, but even then I decided that the 
Multia wasn't worth the trouble as a cheap VMS machine.  I waited a bit 
then bought an ALPHAstation 255/233 for about £6,000.  Around the same 
time, older VAXes started to become available for free, and a couple of 
years later older ALPHAs.
