It would also here be helpful to have more of a description of what the person wants to achieve. For instance, to write a VWS compatible program it is not always necessary to program directly to the VWS buffers and structures. I wrote a graphical heating curves analysis program for the steel industry circa 1990 which used the programming tools DECforms, GKS (Graphical Kernal System), Rdb, Pascal, and DEC ReGIS Graphics. These tools (esp. DECforms and GKS) provided for the dynamic switching of GUI (by changing the value of a logical) with VWS being one of the supported GUI targets. I didn't need to know anything about programming directly to VWS. Still I had a program that could use VWS-based functionality and widgets, including superimposing high density graphics curves with zoom functionality.
