There is if you have a disk that ANA/DISK/REPAIR can't fix and you need
to manually extract critical files.
I had to do something similar but with indexed files that the LD driver
had partly written over. I had to go through the file which had been
partly written over and recover whatever records I could.
Note that ATA drivers do not notify VMS of hardware errors on disks. So
the rror ecount will remain at 0 even when the disk is violently
convulsing and taking its last breaths with the arms all over the place
and unable to read/write any data.
