This thread highlights a strangely positive aspect of VMS' demise.
Imagine if governments world-wide had been using VMS (and if on
top of that VMS took a different course historically, with a lot
more support and development, without jobs being dumped into the
third world), then the tyrannical aspects such as the massive
'surveillance' (read: spying) practices would've perhaps had a
much harder time being 'whistle-blown' about.
Perhaps this also proves that VMS could've never survived, or
certainly that it likely wouldn't have been desirable, as it's
not compatible in the world of today.
