> Perhaps HP would better connect their VMS clients to firms like Sector7 or Transoft. But even then, its just an introduction. It's not a migration. And those migrations can take years.
They already are doing that, in UK, France and Sweeden.
Their talk is : "we want to help you for the transition". In Europe they
try to create a sort of network of consultants (with HP on the top of it).
And in the official talks they laud Non-Stop, Non-Stop and Non-Stop
again : I think in a sort of wishfull-thinking, they imagine VMS
customers wil go to Non-Stop.
I agree about what you said : however it is years of work for some
sites, with huge functional risks. And the point is : for the site that
are now on VMS, except some lazzy ones, they have very good and specific
needs, which legacy translators, even the best, like transoft or
sector7, are not able to address.
Don't forget here it is also a serie of scientific issues :
translatability, knowledge transfert, conservation of sla over
translations, ratio and function of human resources in the high hability
systems...
All these scientific issues are relative new issues, because the event
of knowing of specifics needs for mission critical is knew, alltogether
with translation for mission critical systems. For now firms like
Sector7 or Transoft have solutions for the easiest cases, and had not be
choosed for now for difficult cases... because their solutions are not
sufficient.
I think one of the best argument to have poulson for VMS is saying : "ok
we'll go out from VMS, but we need at least 10 years with the best
itanium around for us, and a big support for transition".
