And that is the big problem. Customers have accepted those "discounts"
in exchange for the owner of VMS hurting them.  Whether Affinity
programme, "Alpha Retain Trust" and whatever HP will provide for the end
of VMS/IA64.

In the case of NSK, the customers said "NO" and would have likely told
HP in no undertain terms that HP's image would be badly hurt if it
stopped NSK.

NSK has the advantage that it has few customers, but they are almost all
high profile.

VMS may have had a couple of high profile customers, but majority were
low key customers who kept quiet about things.
