Thank you for the pointer to the Netapp "OpenVMS guide to best 
practices", this is a very complete guide. Our SAN is from them and this 
document illustrates many important points, as such:

* Netapp lun type must be of type Solaris (page 14)
* Supplying Vendor Unique ID (pages 14 and 15) of value 25.
* two luns have to be created, one mapped to lun 0 and one to lun > 0, 
the lun 0 is a dummy lun aka "Command Console LUN" (page 15)

Thank you for the info, and how-tos. Is the process relatively similar on 
the ia64 platform itself, I'll try to migrate the alphaservers first, the 
ia64 will come next.
