Both my wife and I have crossed the US/Canada border on numerous occasions
with more medications than a small pharmacy and have never had any issues.
The same to be said of our myriad treks to the UK and to EU. Save for the
drug dogs sniffing our bags upon return from NL (SOP upon returning from
Schiphol), there's never been any issue with or even a question about our
voluminous medication cache.
I did, once, pre-9/11, after an LA DECUS Symposium, have all of my diabetic
supplies confiscated by LAX security because they said there were no clear
prescription labels on the supplies. Syringes come in cardboard boxes of
100 -- 10x10 plactic bags. The Rx label is typically affixed to the box;
not on each syringe! Also, insulin vials received labels on the box which
contains the vial. I had a card in with my meds which maintained prescrip-
tions for everything I carried but the morons in LAX security took all of
my medications regardless of that.
I feel much safer now when traveling by air because of TSA. Those morons
can't even tell left from right (as evidenced by a conflict with my last
trip to NL when a TSA moron insisted that there was metal seen in my right
leg by their X-ray machine and I had to drop my trousers to show him that
not only did he not know left from right but that it was clear from both
the severe scars I bear upon left leg and its deformity that the metal is
in the LEFT leg).

If the NSA is as efficient and as adept as the TSA, there's nothing to be
concerned about.
