Callable MAIL was around long before the rewrite. I don't remember when 
it was added, but it was around the VMS V5 release, I think. But I 
clearly don't remember things like I used to....

Two different things. The callable MAIL interface was documented. The 
foreign mail protocol has never been publicly documented, to my knowledge.
