Yes.  There are other platforms with host-based software-based RAID-1 
capabilities.

While RAID-1, RAID-6 and other RAID levels are common in storage 
hardware available across almost all vendors, some operating systems 
have that available in software and hardware.

The other question that should be asked when a particular feature is 
being discussed is whether a different approach or different solution 
can satisfy your more general requirements.  For instance, might a 
completely automated, effective and transparent backup mechanism avoid 
the requirements for RAID — whether software or hardware — for various 
installations?
