Why reboot?  I believe you should be able to just use the 2nd, or 3rd, NIC.

Consider this.  Lightening or surge.  If it is going to take out one 
NIC, what makes you think it won't take out the other also.  Perhaps 
better for the spare NIC to have no exposure, ie; in a box, on the shelf.
