Assuming there's either redundant NICs, or redundant NICs into a second 
redundant switch...  If the NIC fails in isolation and (unusually) 
without taking out the box, or assuming the switch fails, or assuming 
the network cable is disconnected, clustering will continue to use the 
remaining link when correctly configured.

Transparent failover.  Without requiring a reboot.

This is what David is trying to describe to you.

OpenVMS is not the only server with the capability to fail over failed 
storage and failed network connections, either.
