man uses a pager and the pager offers the search. Try 'man -P cat man' 
to use cat as the pager.

On VMS try "$ pipe help/out=sys$output help * |type /page=save 
sys$input". Unfortunately type is not a pager with a search capability.

Which seems just a matter of who spent more time on writing man pages or 
the info manual.
