If you feel adventurous there are sites out there which specialise in 
unlocking BIOS features.  I stumbled across a thread about the BIOS for 
my HP MicroServer recently.  I'm hesitant to go there while it's still 
in warranty though.

The tinny sound on many laptops drives me nuts for any prolonged period.
