The first time I came across HP's Postscript emulation was in 1999, when
I bought a LaserJet 2100M. The emulated models were substantially
cheaper and that meant that for the first time, a Postscript capable
printer came within my budget for home use.

There were known bugs in the emulation back then, and HP had promised a
free replacement chip, but I never came across anyone who was successful
in obtaining it.
