Few tools implement this sort of security. Even those tools with
sensitive data or even passwords don't necessarily erase that data
securely. Some few tools either do use the OpenVMS mechanisms to avoid
remanence, or do recommend the use of erase-on-delete or highwater
marking with data, or both.
CIFS is not among these products.
Alternatively — and getting back to what some experience with looking
at source code allows here — check the source code for CIFS/Samba, and
see what it does.
Here <http://carlo17.home.xs4all.nl/howto/undelete_ext3.html> is
somebody else that's gone through something similar, though that was
with a Linux file system.
Samba does have a recycling mechanism, but I haven't looked to see if
it's implemented in the OpenVMS CIFS/Samba port. AFAIK, it has to be
enabled, too; it's not on by default.
