   Yes, that's what I wanted, but now (at long last) I see
that the set of valid item codes for $SET_DEVICE is limited
to those few SDV$_MP_* things.  Sigh.  Windows has
GetVolumeLabel() and SetVolumeLabel(), so my expectations
were too high (again).  Thanks for the guidance.  Ooh,
delicious dirt.  Yummy.
