I'm told that HP can't be trusted to continue with OpenVMS and they may discontinue the Itanium Machines. Also, it's too hard to find VMS Experts in the work force. Also, I'm told that the industry is moving from OpenVMS to Windows everywhere.

So they want to move from a system where it's hard to get good people,
to a system where it's hard to get system reliability?
Trading one problem for another.
If they can show that they'll save money immediately by doing the switch
then I can understand this. Otherwise it would appear to be mostly a
silly waste of money. People are sometimes very happy to just replace
working systems for no good reason. Most of the time when that happens,
there is someone elses economical interests driving the change.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it is something I believe somewhat in...

But that is just my opinion.
